AAEM26 Preview: Pediatric Emergency Medicine Updates

Staying current with emerging evidence in pediatric emergency medicine is essential for delivering optimal care. Ongoing advancements in research and evolving clinical recommendations continue to shape diagnostic strategies, treatment protocols, and management approaches for common pediatric emergencies.

At the AAEM 32nd Annual Scientific Assembly (AAEM26) in Seattle, Washington, Mimi Lu, MD, FAAEM, and Ilene Claudius, MD, will present “Pediatric Emergency Medicine: Cutting-Edge Updates and Essential Insights (Plenary III).” The session will take place on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 8:15 AM to 9:00 AM PT in Grand III on the fourth floor and offers 0.75 CME credit.

Dr Lu is a Clinical Professor at UCSF in Burlingame, California, and Dr Claudius is a Professor at Harbor UCLA in Los Angeles, California. Session moderators include Kathleen Stephanos, MD, FAAEM, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, and Phillip A. Dixon, MD, MBA, FAAEM, CHCQM-PHYADV, Medical Director of Utilization Management at The Ohio State University WMC in Delaware, Ohio. This plenary session will review recent literature and key studies relevant to pediatric emergency medicine. The presentation will examine updates in diagnostic strategies, treatment protocols, and management approaches, with a focus on how these developments may be incorporated into clinical practice. Attendees will be introduced to recent research findings and guideline updates and will explore their application to everyday care in the emergency setting.

Learning objectives for the session include summarizing recently published research articles and clinical trials impacting pediatric emergency medicine, as well as highlighting updates to practice guidelines and recommendations and discussing how these changes may be incorporated into routine care.
