Severe Hypertriglyceridemia: How Chylomicrons Drive Pancreatitis Risk
Severe hypertriglyceridemia (sHTG) can indicate more than elevated triglyceride levels alone. At sufficiently high levels, chylomicrons become the dominant concern, helping clinicians distinguish routine hypertriglyceridemia from chylomicronemia syndrome and identify patients at increased risk for triglyceride-related acute pancreatitis. This quiz reviews the physiologic relationship among triglyceride thresholds, chylomicron accumulation, and pancreatitis risk.
