The Accent MRI device was implanted by cardiothoracic surgeon Raymond Shaerf, MD, into an 82-year-old patient who successfully underwent MRI testing last week.
Shaerf, part of an ongoing global study conducted to determine the safety of full-body MRI in patients with the Accent MRI system, stressed the importance of MRI scanning to aid in the care and diagnoses of these cases.
"With this device and system, we have made a great leap forward, and in this patient actually did an MRI of the heart, with no problems and no artifacts on the scan caused by metal."
