Single-Pill Emergency Contraception Now Available to All Age Groups Without Prescription
In a letter sent to Judge Edward Korman on Monday, June 10, the U.S. Department of Justice announced their intent to drop the appeal of the April decision to make emergency contraception available to women of all ages without a prescription.
The new development will lift sales restrictions on the 1-pill version of the drug, specifically Plan B One-Step, but keep restrictions on the 2-pill versions of the drug.
This effectively reverses last week's decision, which called for the 2-pill version of the drug to become available to all age groups.
Restrictions will be lifted, the FDA announced, as soon as the drug's manufacturer, Teva, submits the appropriate application.
