Staphylococcus Aureus

Where is it found?
Found in:

  • Reheated foods
  • Ham and other meats
  • Dairy products
  • Custards
  • Eggs
  • Potato salads
  • Cream-filled pastries
  • Other high-protein foods

What are the symptoms?
Illness develops 1-6 hours after eating and lasts for 1-2 days.

Symptoms include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea

How can I prevent it?

  • Make sure that food handlers at delis, etc, wear gloves
  • Wash your hands when preparing food and before eating
  • Cool foods quickly in the refrigerator
