Total Artificial Heart

A total artificial heart replaces which part of the heart?

  1. Ventricles
  2. Aorta
  3. Pulmonary arteries

Answer: A, Ventricles

A total artificial heart (TAH) replaces the ventricles, which are the lower chambers of the heart. The TAH is connected to a power source outside the body and has 4 mechanical valves that control blood flow. A TAH may be surgically installed when a patient is experiencing heart failure.
